NYU Neuroinformatics Training ‘FAIR Thee Well’

The language and tools for sharing neurophysiological data

As neuroscience becomes an increasingly collaborative discipline, use of a common language to describe data is essential for collaboration, open science, reproducibility, and the access of scientific data in the broader community. The NIH has also created new requirements for data sharing to accelerate scientific discovery and expedite translation of results into knowledge, products, and procedures to improve human health. This symposium will discuss challenges, solutions, and provide an overview of the tools and languages that make data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR).

Monday, August 9, 1-4 PM EST

1:00 PM- Introduction Alyssa Picchini-Schaffer, PhD (Simons Foundation)

1:10 PM- The FATE of FAIR Neurophysiology Data Timothy Brown, PhD (University of Washington, Medicine)

1:25 PM- Neurodata Without Borders: the lingua franca for neurophysiology data Kristofer E. Bouchard, PhD (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)

1:40 PM- Sharing naturalistic human electrophysiology data: An unexpected journey Bing Wen Brunton, PhD (University of Washington)

1:55 PM- brainSTEM, a metadata collection tool Peter Petersen, PhD (Buzsaki lab, NYU Langone Health)

2:55 PM- Building a neurophysiology data pipeline with open-source tools: an end-user experience Kyu Hyun Lee, PhD, (Frank Lab, University of California, San Francisco)

3:10 PM to 4:00 PM- Where do we go from here? A moderated discussion with speakers and Dr. Alyssa Picchini-Schaffer

Tuesday, August 10, 12-4 PM EST

The best way to put these ideas and tools into practice is to use them. Experts from Datajoint and NWB introduce their platforms with a hands-on workshop.

12:00 PM- Datajoint Introduction and Tutorial Dimitri Yatsenko, PhD (DataJoint) David Godinez (DataJoint) https://datajoint.com

1:00 PM- Neurodata Without Borders Introduction and Tutorial Ben Dichter, PhD (CatalystNeuro) https://www.nwb.org

2:00 PM to 4:00 PM- Break-out rooms with hands-on time and expert guidance

Registration is free but required to obtain zoom links.
